Field trips, excursions and industrial visits are organized throughout the year to give real-life experiences to students. A good blend of theory and practice is maintained.

Site Visit to Adlabs Imagica

A unique industrial visit at Imagica – Theme Park had students experience the use of various engineering streams applied in practical life. Students went through a presentation by the project department of Imagica on the use of technology at Imagica. Industrial visit helps a student to garner knowledge from the corporate industries. It helps the student to gain practical experience from the industry. The visit gave an enlightening experience about the park right from the working of a roller coaster to the architecture of the structures. Such industrial visits help to enrich students with knowledge at the same time it also acts as a stress buster for the students having a hectic schedule.

Site visit to Automatic Tile Manufacturing Plant

The visit was conducted with the aim to give the knowledge of production of concrete tile and manhole cap, paver block, texture tiles etc. with the help of automated technology. It is a complete computerized unit where in it takes the composition of aggregate, sand, cement and water directly from the input given to the computer.

Site Visit to Water Treatment Plant

Third year students of Civil Engineering went for a site visit to Shahad Temghar Water Treatment Plant. They were informed about total treatment process from source of water to capacity of treatment plant. Students were also taken to site where they saw the quality of water before treatment and after treatment. This treatment plant treats 280MLD of water everyday and supplies to Thana, Bhiwandi, Bhayander and 134 villages. The treatment process include pre-chlorination of water to kill bacteria, fungus for which they give the chlorine dose of 18kg then poly aluminium chloride is used as coagulant with a dose of 2.5 ppm. Then water goes for flocculation process where turbidity of water is removed after detention time of 3hrs. Then water goes to filtration process where it is filtered. The plant has 22 filter beds and then water goes for post chlorination process where 36kg of chlorine dose is given and water sample is collected and tested in their laboratory for pH, turbidity, Residual chlorine content.

Site Visit to CIDCO

To get the knowledge of actual practice, a site visit was arranged for the participants of STTP at Kharghar. The visit was arranged at Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Project which is going through the construction phase during the period of STTP. The project of Navi Mumbai Metro rail is been put up by CIDCO which would be running from Kharghar to Taloja.

Site visit to Kalyan Railway Yard

Students have seen various component of railway engineering like diamond crossing, car shed, rail section, sleepers, holding devices, fish plates, signal control and systems etc. the visit was conducted to enhance the theoretical knowledge of the students grasped by them in the class.

Three Day Project Survey

The first step of any construction project like road, building, bridge, dam, canal, water and sewer line is to find the ground profile. For this study, the students were taken to Igatpuri where they learnt how to lay and draw L-section, c-section, contouring and radial contouring. A 4 hour workshop on Spatial / Visual intelligence was also a part of their 3 day visit.

Traffic Survey

As a part of Mumbai university curriculum, the students of third year are required to attend a traffic count project. For this, the students were taken to NH3 near Bhiwandi on the same day. The count of vehicles was aimed so as to judge the level of service of the existing facility of intersection, comparing the traffic density and flow condition using traffic volume study. The students had to find out the relation between the reaction time, traffic volume study and density.
